WHAT IS AGRIVOLTAICS
Letting Solar and Agriculture Work for Each Other
Agrivoltaics combines agricultural production with solar photovoltaic energy generation on the same land. Also known as agrisolar, dual-use solar, or low-impact solar, this approach allows farmers to grow crops beneath and between solar panels. Solar grazing offers another option, with livestock grazing in and around the solar array.
By treating agriculture and solar energy as complements—not competitors—agrivoltaic systems help working lands stay productive while creating opportunities for diversified farm income, greater energy resilience, and a reduced carbon footprint.

Better Growing Conditions. More Efficient Energy.
Crops, native grasses, and flowering plants can form a mutually beneficial relationship with solar panels. The panels provide diffused shade that protects plants from intense sunlight, lowers air temperatures, and reduces soil-water evaporation—creating a more comfortable environment for crops and farm workers alike.
In return, the plants release water vapor that naturally cools the panels from below. This cooling effect can improve photovoltaic performance and increase energy efficiency.
